Pastels made for Je perds le Nord, 2016

The colors of the iconographic charter of the Archives Bordeaux Metropole chosen with the greatest care in connection with the surrounding landscape, led me to an exploration of the place to draw the sap that is at the origin of the tryptic Je Perds Le Nord. The desire to find through the memory light shades in the form of dust and thus experience a personal journey between bewilderment and contemplation. Manipulating the pastels in their box instantly brings me back to the elaboration of the paintings and all the ramifications that germinated during the duration of this project. These fragments connect me to both my personal archives and the Archives site. It is these little pale pebbles that accompany me and illuminate my path.

About Semaphores / Castle Battlements Abtract landscape diptych The work was inspired by the work of a Belgium architect who designed the new building of the Metropolitan Archives of Bordeaux. He sampled a few colours from the immediate surroundings of the building site as a guide for the interior decoration of the lecture hall of the archives. I was also working on the archives of the painter Dumas in the archives and decided to propose different versions of the same painting on 3 distinct diptychs from more abstract to realistic. Each landscape with its eyedropper most distinctive colours extracted from its adjacent painting. The trapeze shape is a reminder of the castle battlements. The archives building reminds of some kind of fortress. The pieces are highly decorative, the abstract landscape present fluidity and show the delicacy of egg tempera on raw linen showing the fabric and the colour of the linen. It conveys a warmness, and exhibits a dreamy atmosphere. The more direct two tone swatches remind us of coat of arms During the exhibition I was experimenting with egg / oil emulsion paintings. The shape of the painting was inspired by the castle battlements and the view one can have of the immediate surroundings from a fortress Castle Battlements were presented in an exhibition in Bordeaux at the City Metropolitan Archives It consists of a diptych painted on canvas on plywood with oil/egg emulsion giving a subtle distinctive shine on the surface of the paint film.
