Like that of the carpenter-embarked, responsible for transforming the space of the holds according to the cargo. Imagine the plans, the borders, the crossings. Read this poem by Césaire. My words next to it on a notebook. Pieces of earth scattered on the ground, the gaze-reflection, seeing beyond as if nothing had happened. An erasure in oblivion. Excavated remains, spines made up of eroded vertebrae, lustrous almost precious. Small hand-cut pebbles that bear witness to forced labour. The fruits of this work are nuggets of white gold. Transported from the islands, they tarnish the reflections of vanity.
