Telas Sueltas
From 2021 and towards 2022
Painting on a non streched canvas deprives it of its tension and flexibility. Instead of the membrane tight as a drum that gives back every punch you give and you find the solid wall behind it. The feeling is not the same. The studio has become entangled with wooden frames and the size of the paintings make it quite complicated to handle. I was looking for more freedom and be able to simply staple on the wall every single new blank canvas the easiest way possible. The size of the paintings on streched bars for the exhibition Jungle at the Botanic Garden of Bordeaux became complicated to store afterwards.
The name of the series Telas Sueltas in spanish means Loose or liberated, for me to get rid of the frame liberates my mind from technicallities I don't have the patience with anymore. I can concentrate mainly on form and color. I remember this picture of Miro working in an airplane garage with an inmense painting at his feet and then I look down at my small sketchbooks.
